How to Enable Alphabetical Filtering (Jump Bar) in Dynamics 365 Subgrids

In this post we look at how we can activate the Alphabet Bar for subgrids (Jump Bar) in forms in Dynamics 365 step by step. For instance, if you want to list contacts related to an account record in Dynamics 365 and to filter contacts by the letter in the contacts’ name.

Prerequisites

  • Familiar with solutions in Dynamics 365 / Power Platform
  • Familiar with configuring Dynamics 365
  • Already have solution in Dynamics 365 / Power Platform to work in

Add component(s) to your solution

In this example we are doing customizations in a solution and for demo purposes we are going to add an account form to the solution and continue working from there. In the part, we look at how to add the form to an existing solution.

Step 1: In you solution select Add existing > Table.

Step 2: Then select Account (in this example) and the Next button to continue to add objects from the account table.

Step 3: Select “Select objects” to continue to add objects to the solution.

Step 4: Select the Form tab and the Account form, and then Add button.

Step 5: The form is now ready to be added to the solution. Click Add to add the form to the solution.

Step 6: Now that the form is added to the solution, we can start customizing it. Expand Tables > Expand Account > Click on Forms > Then open the form in a new tab.

To conclude this part. We have now added the required form to a solution and are ready to customize it. In the next part, we look at how we can add Alphabetical Filtering (Jump Bar) to the subgrid.

Enable Jump Bar for Subgrid in Dynamics 365

In this part, we look at how we can add Alphabetical Filtering (Jump Bar) to the subgrid. Let look at it step by step and continue where we left off in the last part.

Step 1: Add a tab to the form that will hold the related contacts to the account and that we want to add the Alphabetic Bar to.

Step 2: Rename the section for the contactss

Step 3: Add a subgrid that lists contacts related to the accounts.

And rename the subgrid with descriptive names

Step 4: Add a component to the subgrid.

Then click “Get more components”.

Step 5: Select the “Power Apps Read-Only Grid” and click Add.

Then click on the “Power Apps Read-Only Grid” again to configure and add the component to the subgrid.

Step 6: After clicking add component the configuration form opens. Here we need to enable “Jump Bar” value as seen in the image below.

When the “Jump Bar” is enabled, it will be available in the subgrid:

Step 7: Save and publish the changes to the form and open an account in your app to see the changes. Thats it👊
